How to open an elevated command prompt

Many commands in command prompt requires admin rights to run then. So we need to open the command prompt with admin rights i.e, elevated command prompt.


Follow these simple steps to open elevated command prompt.

1. Go to Start Screen or click on Windows logo icon.

2. Type in cmd

3. Right click on Command Prompt>>Run as administrator.

You can even open the elevated command prompt by following the below steps.


1. Go to Start Screen or click on Windows logo icon.

2. Type in cmd>>Open it.

3. Right click on command prompt in taskbar>>Press and hold shift key and then Right click on the command prompt.

4. You will get an option 'Run as administrator'. Click on it.

Windows Update failed

We usually come across an issue when windows updates fails to install or search for new updates.Here is a solution that you must try to get the issue resolved.


Follow the below steps:


1. Open elevated cmd and type in net stop WuAuServ

2. Open run window(Windows logo key + r), then type in %windir% and hit enter.

3. In the opened folder, locate softwaredistribution folder. Press Shift+Delete to permanently delete the folder. If you find any other folder related to softwaredistribution(eg: softwaredistributionold, softwaredistribution1..,) Shift+Delete that aswell.

4. Open elevated cmd and type in net net start WuAuServ

Restart the machine and check for Windows Updates. This should resolve the issue.

If you are unable to delete the softwaredistribution folder, please restart the machine and then try.

1. Click on notification icon in the taskbar.
2. Click on All Settings.
3. Then click on Updates and Security.
4. Check for updates.

How to set Internet Explorer as default web browser

Windows 10 uses Edge as its default browser.
To enable Internet Explorer browser as default follow below steps.


1. Go to Start screen(Click on Windows icon)

2. Type in 'Internet Options' >> Open it.

3. Go to Programs tab.

4. Click on Set internet Explorer as default.

5. Click on Apply>>Ok.
